Scholarship Information

Thanks to the generous support of a number of individuals, public accounting firms and organizations, the Undergraduate Accounting Program at Florida State University offers many scholarship opportunities to undergraduate accounting majors. In addition, both undergraduate students and Master of Accounting students are eligible for scholarships offered by the Florida Institute of CPAs (FICPA). Also, residents of Broward County (undergraduate and masters students) are eligible for Walter A. Friedly Memorial Scholarships. These scholarships and the related programs are described below. During the application period, application forms can also be downloaded from this website.

E.C. and Tillie Allen Scholarships, Kimberly Cass Winter Scholarships and John Champion Scholarships

Thanks to a generous donation made by the late Mr. E.C. Allen and his wife Tillie, as well as generous donations by the family, friends and colleagues of the late Kimberly Winter Cass (a manager with Ernst & Young) and a generous contribution made by Mr. Richard Possenti (a retired partner from KPMG), every semester the Accounting Department awards a number of $500 scholarships to undergraduate accounting majors. These scholarships are the E.C. and Tillie Allen Scholarships, the Kimberly Winter Cass Scholarships and the John Champion Scholarships. Only one application is necessary for an applicant to be considered for all these scholarships.

Applicants for awards to be paid in the Spring 2010 Semester must meet the five criteria listed below. The Accounting Department will be offering approximately 6 scholarships.
  1. have completed at least two (2) upper level (i.e., 3000 and/or 4000 level) required accounting major courses (i.e., ACG and/or TAX) as of the end of the Summer 2009 Semester;
  2. be an undergraduate accounting major (full-time and part-time undergraduate accounting majors will be considered) during the Spring 2010 Semester;
  3. have an accounting GPA of at least 3.500 based on 3000 and 4000 level required accounting major courses taken (i.e., those courses with ACG and TAX prefixes) as of the end of the Summer 2009 Semester;
  4. have an overall GPA of at least 3.500 as of the end of the Summer 2009 Semester; and
  5. have completed or be enrolled in at least one upper-level (i.e., 3000 and/or 4000 level) required accounting major course (i.e., ACG and/or TAX) since the last time that the applicant received one of these $500 scholarships.

Students who have received a total of three (3) or more of the above scholarships prior to the Spring 2010 Semester may apply; however, preference will be given to those students who have received a total of two (2) or fewer of the above scholarships prior to the Spring 2010 Semester.

Students who have been attending part time may apply; however, preference will be given to students who have been attending full-time.

More information and application forms for these scholarships are also available in the Accounting Department Office (Room 309). Each scholarship is for $500 and will be paid in the Spring of 2010. Only one application is require to be considered for all three scholarships. Students not enrolled during the Spring 2010 Semester will not receive a scholarship.

Completed applications are due by 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 20, 2009. Completed applications should be delivered to the Accounting Department Office (Room 309). A student can apply for a scholarship even if he/she will not be enrolled during the Fall of 2009 as long as he/she will be enrolled in the Spring of 2010. Applications will also be accepted by mail. Accounting Excellence Scholarship Awards

Based on the generous financial support provided by public accounting firms, alumni, business organizations and friends of the accounting department, each fall and spring semester the Accounting Department awards a number of $300 scholarships to undergraduate accounting majors. Qualified students can apply for these awards each semester.

Fall 2009 Application Process

Scholarship information and applications will be available in the latter part of the Fall 2009 Semester (with awards to be paid in the Spring of 2010). Note that these $300 scholarships are restricted to undergraduate accounting majors.

Florida Institute of CPAs (FICPA) Scholarships

In the past, the Florida Institute of CPAs (FICPA) Educational Foundation has allocated scholarships for Florida State University (FSU) students who are United States (U.S.) citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. In addition, applicants must be Florida residents and have real financial need. Recently these scholarships have been offered at the beginning of the spring term and paid in the fall term. Undergraduate accounting majors and Master of Accounting students are eligible to apply. The application process for the Spring of 2009 is closed. Award winners from the Spring of 2009 will be notified by the FICPA later this summer, with the award being paid in the Fall of 2009. The names of the award winners will be posted on the website at that time. When these scholarships are offered in the future, information will be available in the Accounting Department Office (RBA 309), announced in accounting classes and/or available on this website.

Walter A. Friedly Memorial Scholarships

In the past, the Walter A. Friedly Memorial Scholarship Fund has allocated scholarships for Florida State University (FSU) students who are United States citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. In addition, applicants must be residents of Broward County, Florida and have real financial need. Recently these scholarships have been offered during spring term and paid in the summer or fall term (at the recipient's option). Undergraduate accounting majors and Master of Accounting students are eligible to apply. The application process for the Spring of 2009 is closed. The award winners from the Spring of 2009 are listed below. When these scholarships are offered in the future, information will be available in the Accounting Department Office (RBA 309), announced in accounting classes and/or available on this website.
