Business: Convergence was a wireless software infrastructure company. The company was acquired by Amazon.com in August 1999 to form a new wireless commerce business unit, called Amazon.com Anywhere.

• Responsible for strategy, fundraising, recruitment, general management and financial performance for company.
• Started company in August 1996, sold to Amazon.com in August 1999 for $25M.
• Raised $2M in venture capital, including investment by Intel Corporation.
• Negotiated the first worldwide software license for Intel’s Bluetooth (www.bluetooth.com) software technology. Intel’s Intellectual Property (IP) coupled with Convergence enhancements were the underpinnings for Bluetooth Software Stack, User Interface and Device Discovery Wizard for client solutions.
• Focused on intellectual property creation with numerous patents on wireless Internet content manipulation, wireless office services and thin client device to device communication protocols.
• Built worldwide customer base of leading communications and computing companies including – Mitsui Comtek, Lucent Technologies, Panasonic, GTE, Bellsouth, GM, HP, Cognos, Ericsson, Compal, Inventec, Quanta.

Jim spearheaded efforts with local business leaders and the PGA tour to organize, a local non-profit golf event. The inaugural event was August 16-21, 2005 in Seattle, WA. The event raised $750,000 in charitable contributions in its first year.

Jim founded a group of local wireless executives to form a Wireless Special Interest Group (SIG) inside the WSA (www.wsa.org). The mission of the WSA WSIG is to give their 1500 member companies and their 100,000 employees more understanding and opportunities to succeed with wireless technology. In the process, contributing to the success of the entire Pacific Northwest Region.
