The Dean’s Brief focuses on faculty, staff and student accomplishments; alumni notes; events of the college’s Board of Governors, curriculum changes and fundraising updates. About Our DeanDean Caryn L. Beck-Dudley became the fifth Dean of the College of Business at Florida State University on March 15, 2006. She is the first female to serve as dean in FSU's College of Business. Dean Caryn L. Beck-Dudley Dean Beck-Dudley came to FSU from Utah State University where she served as dean for four years. Prior to serving as dean at USU, she was a professor and department head in the Department of Management and Human Resources at USU, teaching business law, employment law and business ethics. She was invited to be a Visiting Professor at the University of Michigan’s School of Business where she taught in both the undergraduate and in the MBA program, winter term 1999. She also spent a sabbatical at the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia teaching in the Honors Program during the 1999-2000 academic year. Before arriving at Utah State, Dean Beck-Dudley was an attorney in a large Salt Lake City law firm.
Currently a member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International's (AACSB) Maintenance of Accreditation Committee, Dean Beck-Dudley was on the AACSB steering committee for the New Deans Learning Community Affinity Group and is a past president of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business. She is the past chair of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business Task Force on Assessment. She is also a member of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business and the Society for Business Ethics. Dean Beck-Dudley was named the College of Business Professor of the Year at USU in 1988. Dean Beck-Dudley graduated magna cum laude from Utah State University in political science. She received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho's College of Law where she was on the moot court team and the editorial board for the Idaho Law Review. Dean Beck-Dudley's vita [PDF] |

She has given presentations and written on a variety of legal and ethical topics, including natural law jurisprudence, business organizations, employment law and insider trading. She has published articles in the American Business Law Journal, Journal of Business Ethics, Employee Rights and Responsibilities, Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, and the Journal of Energy Law and Policy, as well as several others. She also served on the editorial board for the American Business Law Journal. She is currently engaged in research on natural law jurisprudence, employment law and creating ethical organizations. Dean Beck-Dudley received the Holmes/Cardozo Award and Ralph C. Hoeber Award from the Academy of Legal Studies in Business for her research. In March 2004, Utah Business named her one of the "Visionaries 30 Women to Watch."
