Try to see where it can take you, not just what it can do for you. - Lauren Turner

Lauren Turner is looking for a practical way to unite her education, her work experience, and her love for community service.

As an undergraduate at Florida State University, Turner logged almost 200 hours of community service. She served as treasurer of H.E.L.P. (Helping Every Little Person), which benefits inner-city kids in the Tallahassee area.

Turner has spent the last two years working as a portfolio analyst for Liberty Mutual. She returned to FSU in May to pursue her MBA. She is also continuing her community work as the philanthropy chair for the student-run MBA Association.

She coordinated the association’s fall participation in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The team exceeded its $1,000 goal, raising $1,370 for the fight against breast cancer. She is also leading the MBA team, participating in FSU’s Relay for Life this spring. The event benefits the American Cancer Society.

“As a female, the more you bring to the table, the more you even the playing field,” Turner said. She knows that an MBA from Florida State University is a great way to bring more to the table in her career and in her future philanthropic work.

Turner sees the difference between an MBA and an undergraduate degree as a matter of perspective: “Try to see where it can take you, not just what it can do for you,” she said.
