Jared Whipkey, MBA 2007
Jared Whipkey wanted to pursue a master’s degree that would set him
apart from the crowd. He found that– and a new passion for finance– in
Florida State University’s MBA program.
“I enjoy helping and serving people as much as possible,” Whipkey
said.
Intrigued by a class lesson on the complexities of health-care financing,
Whipkey jumped at the chance to intern with the chief financial officer at Tallahassee
Memorial Hospital. He sat in on capital budgeting brainstorming
sessions and learning the inner workings of the facility’s purchasing process.
He credits the College of Business faculty and staff for making it possible.
“They go out of their way to help you out,” said Whipkey, who
excelled at school while participating on FSU’s football team.
Anyone considering an FSU MBA needs to be prepared for a competitive environment
that tests a person’s work ethic as well as knowledge, Whipkey said.
“It’s not an easy thing at all,” he said.
