The Florida State University College of Business Internship Program is designed for students who are registered for the Internship Course and have paid the applicable tuition. Eligible students will be placed in the Internship Course after signing the COB Internship Agreement and successfully obtaining an internship. Credit will not be given for past internships (students must take the Internship Course concurrently with the internship). Students are eligible for 3 credit hours toward their degree or their major as noted below. International internships are eligible for up to 6 credit hours. The internship course is not repeatable under the same departmental prefix (ACG, FIN, GEB, MAN, MAR, RMI).

Eligibility requirements for the College of Business Internship Program

• Students must be formally admitted to the College of Business and meet the prerequisites for their respective major as noted below.
• Students must have their resume critiqued by the FSU Career Center.
• Students must complete and sign the Student Internship Agreement.

Internship Course Requirements
Each department and/or major varies with respect to the prerequisite requirements for the internship course. All internships must initially be approved by the Internship Director or an academic department before being considered for academic credit. Students must work a minimum of 10 weeks, 15-20 hours per week.

Individual department and/or major requirements for internships are as follows:

• Marketing:
  Students must have completed 9 credit hours of Marketing courses including Basic Marketing Concepts (MAR 3023). Marketing internships count as elective credit within the Marketing major. Professional Sales students must have completed 9 credit hours of Marketing or Sales courses including Basic Marketing Concepts (MAR 3023) and Professional Selling (MAR 3400). A sales internship is required for the Professional Sales major. All Marketing and Sales internships are overseen by the Marketing Department Chair through a Blackboard course.



• Finance:
  Students must have completed FIN 3403 and FIN 3244. Finance internships do not count as elective credit within the Finance major. They do, however, count as general elective credit toward the 120 hours required for the degree. All Finance internships are overseen by the Finance Department Chair through a Blackboard course.



• Management:
  Students must have completed 6 credit hours of Management or HR courses including Organizational Behavior (MAN 3240). Management internships count as elective credit within the Management and HR majors. All Management internships are overseen by the Management Department Chair through a Blackboard course.



• MIS:
  There are no prerequisites for a MIS internship. MIS internships do not count as elective credit within the MIS major. They do, however, count as general elective credit towards the 120 hours required for the degree. MIS internships are overseen by the Management Department Chair through a Blackboard course.



• Risk Management/Insurance (RMI):
  Students must have completed 9 credit hours of business/risk management and insurance courses, including RMI 3011. RMI internships count as elective credit within the major. RMI internships are overseen by individual faculty advisors.



• Accounting:
  Students must have completed 9 credit hours of accounting courses. Accounting internships do not count as elective credit within the Accounting major. They do, however, count toward the 36 hours of accounting required by the State of Florida for CPA licensure. All Accounting internships are overseen by individual faculty advisors.



• Real Estate:
  There are no prerequisites for a Real Estate internship. Real Estate internships do not count as elective credit within the Real Estate major. They do, however, count as general elective credit towards the 120 hours required for the degree. Real Estate internships are overseen by individual faculty advisors.

FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions

• What classifies as an Internship? Students must work in a managerially relevant position for a minimum of 10 weeks, 15-20 hours per week (please see “Evaluation Criteria for Internships”). All internships for credit must be approved by the Director and the academic department. Current part-time jobs almost never meet the criteria for an effective internship.
• Does the College give credit to Business minor students? No, you have to be formally admitted into the College of Business and have completed the prerequisites of your major.
• Is credit offered for an internship completed in the past? No, the internship course must be taken concurrently with the student’s internship.
• Is credit required for all internships? No, credit is only required if you obtain your internship through the Office of Internship Programs.
• Can I get credit for a second internship? Yes, a student can do a second internship; however, it will count only as general elective credit and must be completed as GEB 4941.
