FOR STUDENTSInternship Benefits for Students:
An internship can bridge a gap between college and the work world, allowing students to experience the roles, expectations, and behaviors of the job arena. Students learn about their strengths, interests, problem solving skills, and abilities to deal with clients and work under pressure. Networking opportunities are gained that are valuable in shaping their future careers. Students gain credentials for their resumes.
One of the recurring themes in any entry level job search is the lack of experience factor. "Where do I get experience if no one is willing to hire me?" The answer is simple: Get an internship! Work experience not only makes you more marketable as a job candidate, it also gives you the opportunity to gain greater understanding about your chosen field. You will have an opportunity to find out many of the positives and negatives in advance and truly enter your field with your eyes wide open. This may give you the chance to step back early from what could have been a major career mistake. Students Interested in obtaining an internship should email ldalton@cob.fsu.edu or call 850-644-8495 or come by Rovetta 327.
Students looking to obtain credit for an internship must talk to the Internship Director. All internships must be approved in order to receive credit. When securing an internship we want to make sure you are getting a great experience, so all internships for credit must be approved ahead of time. Internships completed prior to the Spring 2009 will no longer be considered for credit. Questions: Please contact Lauren A. Dalton, Director of Internship Programs |
