Entrepreneurship Major

Do you have what it takes to start your own business? The Entrepreneurship Major in the College of Business has been redesigned into a highly interactive and competitive world-class program! The new and innovative Entrepreneurship Major is a three-year program starting with your SECOND (sophomore) year. You must apply during your FIRST (freshman) year – prior to the April 2, 2010 deadline – to be part of this exciting opportunity. If admitted you will be running your own business next year!

The initial Entrepreneurship Major core courses are "Creating and Managing New Ventures" (2 credit hours) and "Creating and Managing New Ventures Laboratory" (1 credit hour). For additional information about the new Entrepreneurship major, including the specific course requirements, click here.

Enrollment is limited to 40 students per year. Admission criteria include academic achievement, evidence of prior entrepreneurial activity, and a compelling essay describing why you want to be an entrepreneur. A resume should be submitted along with the application. We will announce admission decisions early in the summer.

Entrepreneurs are among the wealthiest and most influential members of society because of the way they are able to seek and develop opportunities that improve society. Whether you are interested in working for a large company in an entrepreneurial role or in running your own business, you will learn how to develop business opportunities to generate new products, services, and wealth that will help our economy and communities grow.

Certificate in Entrepreneurship

The Jim Moran Institute now has available a Certificate in Entrepreneurship for Business Majors. Just because you are majoring in Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, or Real Estate, doesn't mean that you won't someday start a business of your own. The Certificate in Entrepreneurship program will give you the tools and confidence to step out and make it happen. By completing the Certificate, you will learn how to plan, acquire resources, and launch new ventures.

The Certificate in Entrepreneurship is a 13 credit hour program, which can be completed in as little as three spring/fall semesters. It is designed to expose business majors to entrepreneurial concepts and practices. This is done by placing an emphasis on experiential and trial-and-error learning and giving access to the teachings of successful entrepreneurs. Classes are taught by faculty who have been entrepreneurs or who consult regularly with businesses.
