Randy BlassDr. Fred (Randy) Blass is currently a faculty member at Florida State University and is the program director of the Jim Moran Institute's Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (FSU EBV). Before joining the faculty at Florida State, he served as an officer in the United States Air Force where he achieved the rank of Lt Col. His professional education includes: a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Florida State University, an M.A. in military Arts and Sciences from Air University, an M.A. in Administrative Science from George Washington University, and a B.A. in American Studies from the University of South Florida. Blass has research interests in power and influence in organizations and organizational socialization. He has published his research in top management journals and has authored multiple articles and book chapters. Also, he has presented his research at both national and regional professional conferences. Blass has over 25 years practical experience in designing and implementing training and development programs. His consulting practice is centered on executive training and focuses on social influence processes in organizations and the importance of trust in organizations.

Jim DeverJames E. (Jim) Dever is an entrepreneur who retired at the age of 41, and at the age of 50, returned to college in order to obtain the bachelor's degree he never completed in the 1960's. In January of 2009, Jim will complete the requirements for his PhD in Entrepreneurship at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. His thesis investigates the effect of failure on portfolio entrepreneurs. Jim brings a wealth of practical entrepreneurial experience to the Jim Moran Institute having owned and operated many successful businesses during his 20 year entrepreneurial career. Those businesses included trucking companies, motels, restaurants, a construction company, and other assorted ventures.

Jim completed the bachelor's degree in 2003 and the MBA in 2004 at the Panama City campus of Florida State University. While there, he wrote a research proposal concerning entrepreneurship in the former Soviet Union and outlined a course plan for teaching entrepreneurship in Central Asia. For this effort, he was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholars Award, which allowed him to travel to Almaty, Kazakhstan, where he taught in a local university and counseled local entrepreneurs. Upon his return, he was co-founder and director of the Summer Entrepreneurial Institute. This intensive two-week long course covered the fundamentals of small business management ranging from strategic business planning to operational management to human resources. As a result of the institute, three young people have opened successful businesses that are still operating today. In addition to these accomplishments, in 2004 at graduation, Jim was the recipient of the Academic Award for Business Administration, the Dempsey Barron Award, and Who's Who Among Students in Universities and Colleges. In 2008, he received the McKeachie Award from the Improving University Teaching conference for his work concerning students working with instructors to make learning fun.

Tim HolcombDr. Tim R. Holcomb is an assistant professor of Management at Florida State University. He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting and computer information systems and his master's degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He received his Ph.D. in strategic management (concentration in entrepreneurship) from Mays Business School at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Holcomb's research interests include entrepreneurial opportunity identification and evaluation, new venture formation and growth, resource management, and leadership/corporate governance. His research appears in the Strategic Management Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Business Research, Frontiers of Entrepreneurship Research, Business Horizons, Advances in Strategic Management, Research in Multi-level Issues, and the Best Paper Proceedings of the Academy of Management. Dr. Holcomb has presented his work at the Annual Academy of Management Meeting, the Strategic Management Society Annual International Conference, the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference, the Max Planck Ringberg Conference on Entrepreneurship, and the Academy of International Business among other venues. His work has earned awards from the Academy of Management, the Strategic Management Society, and Babson College, among others. He currently serves as the Secretary/Newsletter Editor on the Executive Committee of the Business Policy and Strategy Division for the Academy of Management.

Prior to his academic career, Dr. Holcomb accumulated more than twenty years of entrepreneurial, executive management, and consulting experience that included work in about twenty-five countries abroad. Following graduate school, he spent thirteen years as a strategy consultant with Accenture Ltd. During his time at Accenture, he helped direct the company's airline industry practice, served on its management advisory council for the Americas region, and was responsible for work with two of the company's largest clients (PepsiCo and Nike), before leaving to pursue his entrepreneurial interests. In 1999, Dr. Holcomb co-founded Telcom Global Solutions Inc., a global telecommunications engineering and professional services firm, with Bear Stearns Merchant Banking and served as the company's president and chief operating officer for two years. The company was named to the nationwide "50 to Watch" list of the most successful new U.S. high tech ventures for 2000 and the following year became the third largest wireless engineering services firm in the world, reaching sales of $50 million by serving clients in ten countries with a staff of more than 250 professionals. Over his career, he has launched eight startups in technology, telecommunications, and professional services. Following the sale of Telcom Global Solutions to Flextronics International in late 2001, Dr. Holcomb helped direct Flextronics' network services division, an $800 million business that employed more than 6,500 professionals in eighteen countries, and served as a corporate senior vice president for the company for two years, before leaving to pursue his doctoral studies in 2003.

Dr. Holcomb teaches courses in strategic management and entrepreneurship/new ventures and coordinates doctoral seminars in entrepreneurship and organizational theory. He has also offered keynote presentations at the Global EMS Conference on Outsourced Services Meeting (Stockholm), the European Outsourced Wireless Infrastructure Annual Conference (London), and the American Society for Travel Agents (ASTA) Annual Conference (Cairo), among other industry and technology conferences and symposiums. Dr. Holcomb frequently advises technology startups and service-based ventures and has consulted with a number of publicly-trade companies on a range of strategic, technology, and change management issues, including among others, A&P Supermarkets, Aerolíneas Argentinas, American Airlines, AT&T Wireless, British Airways, Ericsson, Frito-Lay, General Dynamics, General Mills, JCPenney, Lufthansa, Nike, Nokia Corporation, Nortel Networks, PepsiCo Inc., Pratt & Whitney, Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), Telefónica, and Yum! Brands Inc.

In 2005, Dr. Holcomb received the Golden Arrow Award, conferred annually by the University of Louisiana to an outstanding alumnus, and the school later named him to its Wall of Honor, recognizing lifetime professional achievements of university alumni.

Barbara N. LayBarbara N. Lay is a seasoned organization and management development expert with diverse experience as an entrepreneur, corporate executive, and independent consultant. Her specialty is to assist leaders develop critical competencies through executive coaching, leader and organization assessments, management skills training, and process facilitation. She has consulted in the areas of executive leadership development; organizational change; process development; productivity improvement; team and individual development; strategic planning; and technology development and integration. Her clients include a range of global Fortune 100 corporations as well as entrepreneurs and small businesses based in northwest Florida.

Barbara's professional record includes over 3 years as a consultant focused on executive coaching, management and organization development, more than 8 years as an entrepreneur and small business owner, and 12 years experience in Motorola, Inc. While at Motorola, her positions ranged from director of a technology center that serviced employees globally to director of Leadership Development where she served as an internal consultant and coach to the corporate executive teams. After leaving Motorola Barbara worked for an international bank, Standard Chartered Bank, where she was based in Hong Kong and Singapore. Barbara was responsible for Executive and Management Education and was head of Operations for their global training organization.

Barbara received a Masters of Science degree from Florida State University in Instructional Systems and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from University of Florida.

Currently Barbara serves on the Executive Board for Goodwill Industries, is a member of Sunrise Rotary, and an active member in several professional organizations.

Dr. OsteryoungDr. Jerome S. Osteryoung is the Director of Outreach of the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship in the College of Business at Florida State University, the Jim Moran Professor of Entrepreneurship; and Professor of Finance. He was the founding Executive Director of the Jim Moran Institute and served in that position from 1995 through 2008.

Dr. Osteryoung received an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech, an MBA from the University of South Florida, and his doctorate from Georgia State University. He consults with entrepreneurs throughout the State of Florida. Over the last thirteen years, he has directly assisted over 3000 entrepreneurs.

He has written eight books, including in 2003 the book So You Need to Write a Business Plan (which is available on Amazon.com). Dr. Osteryoung has written over 60 refereed articles on entrepreneurial and finance subjects, and has written a weekly article on entrepreneurship for the Tallahassee Democrat since March of 2001. Jerry's Recipes for Success – an Entrepreneurial Cookbook (published January 2004) is a compilation of 100 of his best articles along with commentaries from entrepreneurs. He is currently working on a new book with Tim O'Brien tentatively called, “The Handbook for Entrepreneurs.”

Dr. Osteryoung is Past President of Sunrise Rotary and is a 5 time Paul Harris Fellow. Additionally, he is a member of the both the Bequeath Society and the Paul Harris Society.

He is Past President of the Board of 211 Big Bend (local and state crisis hot lines) and has served as a crisis counselor at 211 Big Bend, contributing over 900 volunteer hours.

He is Treasurer of Florida Commerce Credit Union and Chair Elect of Goodwill Industries of the Big Bend. He serves and has served on many other boards including the American Red Cross (past Chairman of the Board) and the Girl Scouts Counsel.

He is a graduate of Class XX of Leadership Tallahassee and Class XX of Leadership Florida.

Dr. Osteryoung is a frequent speaker at international, national, and local events. He gives about 50 speeches a year on business related topics.

He has received numerous awards. His most recent award was the 2005 Richard L. McLaughlin Award for Volunteer of the Year by the Florida Economic Development Council.

Dr. PresnellDr. Betty A. Presnell is Associate Director of The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship and an Associate in Entrepreneurship in The College of Business at Florida State University. She coordinates an annual business plan competition that offers student recognition and monetary awards. Dr. Presnell organizes an Entrepreneurial Day Event to expose entrepreneurship students to experienced local, regional, and nationally acclaimed entrepreneurs.

She received an MBA from Rivier College. Dr. Presnell has a Masters of Science, a Specialist in Education, and Ph.D. from Florida State University. She also holds certifications in Human Resource Development and Educational Leadership from Florida State University. Dr. Presnell is the Faculty Advisor for the student chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs' Organization (CEO) at Florida State University. She consults with numerous small businesses and facilitates executive business roundtables as well as assists in conducting strategic planning workshops. She gives presentations to area organizations and businesses. At Florida State, Dr. Presnell teaches Introduction to Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation and Business Plans. She is entering her fifth year of teaching entrepreneurship at Florida State and has taught at Kennesaw State University, the University of New Hampshire, Daniel Webster College, and Colby College in New Hampshire.

Dr. Presnell is the youth outreach coordinator for the Jim Moran Institute. She coordinates Junior Achievement (JA) classes in Leon County High Schools. The program provides over 50 Junior Achievement classes in 12 Leon County High Schools reaching over 1,000 students. Dr. Presnell recruits local entrepreneurs and business professionals to teach the JA courses. She hosts an annual JA Appreciation Luncheon for teachers and volunteers.
