Management Department Ranks in Top 5 for Impact Factor

Florida State University's Management Department has been listed in the top five for impact factor on the High-Impact U.S. Institutions scale determined by Thomson Reuter's ScienceWatch. This scale calculates the rankings by the number of citations per paper among U.S. universities that published 100 papers or more in Thomson Reuters-indexed management journals from 2004 to 2008.

FSU's CEO Club Wins Competitions at National Meeting

FSU's Collegiate Entrepreneurs' Organization (CEO) Club won two competitions at the CEO Annual National Conference in Chicago on October 22-24, 2009. The club won the CEO Best Chapter Award for First Place In-Person Networking and the CEO Best Chapter Award for First Place Entrepreneur Intern For A Day contests. Management Department faculty member Betty Presnel directed FSU's CEO students at the conference.

Ph.D. Program Alumnus Receives Recognition

Strategic Management PhD Alum Russell Crook, was recently recognized as the scholar of the week for his recent publications in Financial Times Top Journals in Business and in Organizational Research Methods, the top journal devoted solely to research methods in the organizational sciences. His research has collected two best paper awards, and he has recently been appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Management. Crook received his Ph.D. from Florida State University and joined UT in 2007. Read the complete story.

Distinguished Positions Awarded to Management Faculty

Three Management Department professors recently have been tapped to join prestigious editorial or directorial boards. Dr. Tim Holcomb has been invited to join the editorial board of the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, a premier journal in entrepreneurship. Additionally, the Southern Management Association has appointed Dr. Caesar Douglas to the Board of Directors. Finally, Dr. Chad Van Iddekinge has been invited to join the editorial board of the Journal of Applied Psychology.

Graduate of Ph.D. Program Wins Award

Robyn Brouer, a recent graduate of the Florida State University Management Department's Ph.D. program, received the Kenneth Clark Best Leadership Paper Award at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, North Carolina this November. This award-winning paper was from her dissertation, supervised by Jerry Ferris, the Francis Eppes Professor of Management. Robyn is currently on the faculty at Hofstra University.


Professors Receive Distinguished Appointments

Management Professor Pam Perrewe has been appointed as the Haywood and Betty Taylor Eminent Scholar in Business Administration by Florida State University President T.K. Wetherell. Dr. Perrewe received the appointment, established in 1998, because of her exemplary teaching, research, and service.

Dr. Wayne Hochwarter has been named the Jim Moran Professor of Management. Dr. Hochwarter's outstanding record as a teacher and scholar led to the appointment.

Seventeenth in Research among AAU Schools

Florida State's Management Department ranks 17th in research productivity compared to other AAU universities, such as Duke, Emory, and Carnegie-Mellon. This ranking, based on 2003-2006 data, was determined via a system developed by the University of Florida and Texas A&M.

Top 10% Ranking in Research

Academic Analytics has ranked Florida State University's Management Department in the top 10% in the country in terms of journal publications per faculty member. This research-oriented accolade, based on 2005 data, shows the faculty's strong standing amongst comparable universities.

Department Chairperson Invited to AMR Editorial Board

The new Chairperson of the Management Department, Annette Ranft, has been invited to serve on the Academy of Management Review Editorial Review Board. AMR is the leading publication for management theory in the world.

Recent Doctoral Graduate Wins Award

Robyn Brouer, a recent doctoral graduate of the Management Department, won the Kenneth E. Clark Research Award from the Center for Creative Leadership for her dissertation. Francis Eppes Professor of Management Gerald R. Ferris directed Dr. Brouer's project.

Management Professor Tapped as Poet Laureate

Dr. Mary Jane Ryals, Research Associate in Business Communication, is the new and first Poet Laureate of the Big Bend region. She was selected by a committee composed of faculty members from area universities and north Florida writers.

Professor Receives "Best Paper" Accolade

Tim Holcomb, Assistant Professor in Management, received the Irene M. McCarthy Award for the Best Paper on the Topic of High Technology at the 2007 Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference in Madrid, Spain for his work titled "Resources, Industry Membership, and Firm Performance: The Role of Capability Configurations in Value Creation for IPO Stage New Ventures."

New Study Gives Management Department High Ranking

In a 2008 study Florida State University's Management Department ranked 36th amongst the 100 most-cited universities in the field from 2000-2004. Professor Gerald Ferris ranked 52nd in a list of the 150 most-cited authors in the field from 1981-2004. The study, published in the Journal of Management, identifies the universities and research scholars who have had the greatest impact on the field of management during the last 25 years.

Prestigious Faculty Appointment

Professor Pam Perrewe was recently appointed to the Editorial Review Board for the Academy of Management Journal, the premier empirical journal for management research worldwide.

Researcher Granted Award and Distinguished Appointment

Mark Martinko, the Bank of America Professor of Management at FSU, has had his article "The Role, Function and Contribution of Attribution Theory to Leadership: A Review" selected as one of the 50 best articles published in 2007 in management. This piece, co-authored with Scott Douglas and Paul Harvey, a recent FSU PhD graduate, also received an Emerald Management Reviews Citation of Excellence. Additionally, Dr. Martinko was elected the Division Chair-Elect of the Managerial and Organizational Cognition Division (MOC) of the Academy of Management. The Academy of Management is the oldest scholarly management association with over 13,000 members from 90 countries.
