Funding Initiatives
Gifts from our alumni and friends are used to support ongoing marketing programs, support student educational activities, and recruit and retain outstanding faculty. Our current funding initiatives include:
- The Center for Service Innovation - The Marketing Department seeks to establish The Center for Service Innovation to further promote the department's strategic emphasis in services science. Services science fosters a broad perspective, integrating research from marketing, operations management, engineering, information sciences, technology, and human resources to tackle the problems of service quality, productivity, efficiency, and innovation that plague service industries around the world. The goals of the Center are to: 1) promote excellence in education, research, and public service related to service innovation, 2) serve as a means of collaboration and coordination among a variety of programs at FSU, and 3) act as a conduit of education, research, and service for students, business executives, federal, state, and local governments, political leaders, industry analysts, and academic researchers. A gift of $5 million is needed to establish the Center. This gift will be matched by the State of Florida to create a final endowment of $10 million. The donor will be recognized through the naming of the Center and the use of the donor's name on all materials and promotion related to the Center and its programs.
- The Corporate Affairs Institute - Despite the vital importance of the relationships among business, government, and society at large, our students and future business leaders need a stronger appreciation of business in the larger context-including how business, government, and society work together to advance our economy, our standard of living, and our way of life. The College of Business seeks to establish The Corporate Affairs Institute to encourage excellence in education, research, and public service related to cultivating the important relationships between business and a variety of external stakeholders (politicians, customers, media, shareholders, law, economic policy, and society at large). To achieve this end, the Institute will be interdisciplinary in both scope and operation; serving as a hub to coordinate a variety of FSU programs (business, political science, economics, law, communication, etc.). A gift of $2 million is needed to establish the Institute. This gift will be matched by the State of Florida to create a final endowment of $4 million. The donor will be recognized through the naming of the Institute and the use of the donor's name on all materials and promotion related to the Institute and its programs.
- The Distinguished Marketing Scholar Series - Each semester, the Marketing Department invites a scholar of international acclaim to visit campus, present research, and meet with our students and faculty. This Series gives our students and faculty exposure to the most innovative and revered scholars in marketing. It is equally important, however, for these visiting scholars to gain exposure to our students and faculty. Our students and faculty are on par with individuals found in the best business schools across the country, and we view the Series as a key strategy in promoting our program to influential people in the marketing field. A gift of $250,000 is needed to permanently endow the Series. This gift will be partially matched by the State of Florida to create a final endowment of $375,000. Proceeds from the gift will fund honoraria, travel, promotional materials, and other expenses associated with bringing distinguished scholars to campus. The donor will be recognized through the naming of the Series and the use of the donor's name on all materials and promotion related to the Series.
- Excellence in Sales Education Initiative - The Marketing Department looks to partner with local, regional, and national firms in the common pursuit of training our best and brightest students for careers in professional selling. Partners support our educational programs, take an active role in student education, and gain insider access during student recruiting. Funding levels are $1,000, $2,500, and $5,000 annually.
- Marketing Department General Fund - The department encourages alumni and friends to donate to the department general fund. These funds are used to support teaching and research, community-based programs, and unexpected student and faculty needs. Donors who pledge $10,000 (giving at least $1,000 a year for example) qualify for membership in the FSU President's Club. Many of our own faculty are President's Club members who support the Marketing Department and its programs.
