The Master Plan for October 12, 2009

Mark your calendars for January

Networking Night

The College of Business thanks master’s students for attending this fall’s Corporate Networking Night in September. Mark your calendars for the next recruiting reception, Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010. If there’s a certain company you’d like to see there, be sure and let Joanna Southerland, director of graduate student support, know. Remember to follow up your interviews with thank you notes.

Remember the college also provides video conferencing for companies needing to interview without traveling to Tallahassee. Above, MBA Association President Jim Spencer, left, talks with representatives from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Choose your classes

Registration begins today for the spring. College of Business schedules for on-campus master's students are posted in the COB Graduate Student Organization in Blackboard. On-campus students needing help may contact Jennifer Boyles, coordinator for on-campus master's students. Online students should receive information from online registrars Kim Burkes (MBA students) or Freddi Robinson (MIS or RMI students) before registering. Registration runs through Dec. 4.

For other important deadlines, check out the fall 2009 academic calendar.

Meet the IRS

Women in Accounting and National Association of Black Accountants are hosting guest speakers from the Internal Revenue Service this week. The session begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday in 334 Rovetta Business Building. Pick  up a brochure in the Department of Accounting, 309 Rovetta Business Annex.

“Any kind of donation makes a difference, even if it's only pocket change.  There is also a link that participants can send to family and friends,” said Kathryn Van Petten, walk coordinator who will also take donations in person.  The event begins at 1:30 p.m. at SouthWood.

Kudos, colleagues

Daniel Mizrachi, online MBA student, will be the guest of Rotary Club of Tallahassee on Wednesday. Past student guests include Ben Hensarling, accelerated MBA student; Vlad Korepanov, MACC student; and Joe Martinez, MS-MIS student. “Lunch with a Rotarian” program gives students the opportunity to network with local professionals in their fields of interest. The Rotary Club partners with the college’s Student Leadership Council to make it possible. The SLC is no longer accepting fall applications, but Jeremy Reams of the SLC encourages interested students to apply early in the spring.

An article, "REITs: Is Now A Good Time to Buy?" based on essays by MBA students Stephanie Marshall and Connie Zicaro will appear in the October 2009 issue of Florida Investor.  The essays were written for a real estate class taught by Dean Gatzlaff last summer. REIT stands for real estate investment trust.
