MIS Funding Initiatives
Thank you for taking the initiative to look for ways to help our MIS program. Most of our
alumni and corporate friends are eager to help, but they aren't sure what we need. Here are a
few ideas. If you or a group of supportive friends of the MIS program can pick one or two of
these as fund-raising goals for this year and raise these funds for us, you'll be making a
tremendous difference in what we can do for our students and faculty.
| Fund the MIS Student Association corporate field trip | $500 |
| Cover the annual dues for the students in the MIS Association (30 x $20) | $600 |
| Fund our subscription to the Microsoft Developers Network Academic Alliance | $400 |
| Send a doctoral student to a research conference | $500 |
| Assist with costs related to maintaining our department servers | $500 |
| Fund an award for the "Teacher of the Semester" (picked by MIS Association) | $500 |
| Sponsor a movie for one MIS @ the Movies night | $500 |
| Fund the travel costs for a distinguished speaker | $1000 |
| Discretionary funds for the MIS Association | open amount |
| Discretionary funds for the department | open amount |
| Sponsor the Women in Technology Symposium | open amount |
Discretionary funds are used to improve the operations of the MIS Association or the
department. For example, the MIS Association might use discretionary money to cover the cost of
food and drinks at an information session for potential MIS majors. In the department, we use
discretionary funds to purchase reference materials, cover travel costs for faculty to conduct
research or present research results at conferences, purchase software needed for research,
upgrade our equipment, etc.
