Online MIS

Prerequisite Requirements for the MS in MIS Program

All MS in MIS applicants must have at least three years of IT-related work experience.

All MS in MIS students will be expected to have the following prerequisite knowledge or skills:

  • Working knowledge of at least two programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Visual Basic, etc. Working knowledge is defined as familiarity with the language syntax and the basic construction of programs in the language (i.e., how branching and looping algorithms would be implemented and how modular or component oriented construction would be accomplished in the language).
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language at a level comparable to an entry-level professional programmer in that language. Proficiency is defined as a working knowledge of the language (see above) plus knowledge of passing arguments or parameters to remote procedures, components, objects or applets, as appropriate for the environment. Proficiency in a language that does not have these characteristics does not satisfy this requirement.
  • Knowledge of basic statistical concepts (descriptive statistics, regression and hypothesis testing).
