Ryder Cup gives back to FSU's College of Business

Ryder Cup Team Captain, Paul Azinger, makes donation to his alma mater

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Former FSU student and U.S. Ryder Cup team captain Paul Azinger selected Florida State University's College of Business to receive a $30,000 donation from his play in the 2008 Ryder Cup tournament, even before the competition began.

Prior to the golf beginning on September 19, 2008 in Louisville, KY., the U.S. team announced their donation of $2.6 million to U.S.-based charitable organizations, students and colleges and universities across the country and families of wounded or fallen veterans. The PGA of America will make the donations on behalf of the U.S. team to the selected universities and colleges as well as the Folds of Honor Foundation, an organization that provides scholarships for dependants and spouses of wounded or fallen service members.

Paul Azinger, who attended Florida State University before becoming a professional golfer in 1981, selected Florida State University, Manatee County Community College, Samford University, and the Paul and Toni Fund of the National Christian Foundation to receive donations from the PGA of America.

"To have competed in the Ryder Cup and now serve as Captain of my country's team are honors that will remain among the greatest of my career," said Azinger. "With those honors comes another special opportunity of which I am very proud. It is the chance to give back to the game of golf by supporting charitable organizations, to the college or university of one's choice through the Play Golf America University program and to the Folds of Honor Foundation, where we can support the families of those who gave so much for our country."

Each U.S. team player is contributing $100,000 to the charity of their choice; $90,000 to the college or university of their choice for the Play Golf American University program; and $10,000 to the Folds of Honor Foundation. Since the Ryder Cup Outreach Program began in 1999, a total of $13 million has been donated on behalf of the Ryder Cup team and Captain.
