The Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) has determined that students from FSU with a major in real estate have met the state’s 300-hour educational requirement to become a certified general appraiser. Graduates of the program are required only to successfully complete the state’s 15-hour standards course, a 3-hour supervisor/trainee course, obtain 3,000 experience hours, and pass the state’s exams.

Sales and Broker Licensure in Florida
Graduates of real estate degree program have satisfied the pre-license and post-license educational requirement for a real estate sales associate and broker as set forth in Section 475.17(6), Florida Statutes, and Chapter 61J2-3.008(9), Florida Administrative Code. Students completing REE 3043 and REE 4433 are eligible to take the sales associate exam. Students completing the major are eligible to take the broker exam.

For proof of satisfaction of educational requirements:
IF APPLICATION "NOT" ALREADY MAILED: Send "Official" FSU transcript with application to DBPR (Tallahassee address is on application). DBPR will coordinate with the Division of Real Estate (Joellen Peacock) in Orlando. Student will receive a Letter of Equivalency which he/she takes to test site. The Letter of Equivalency should be kept for four (4) years. (NOTE: This letter also covers other licenses such as broker; post-licensing sales/broker, etc.)
IF APPLICATION "ALREADY" MAILED: Send "Official" FSU transcript directly to Joellen Peacock. She will direct DBPR to update the student file and will send the student a Letter of Equivalency to take to test site. (DBPR also notifies test center.)

In general, the state requires 24 classroom hours of instruction to sit for the exam. The curriculum is very specific and, in general, the Real Estate Finance course (REE 4204) may not cover every topic. As of now, REE 4204 is not an approved mortgage broker or lender pre-licensing course.
